Create Your Capsule Wardrobe Like A Modern Minimalist

Updated: Jan 13

One of the biggest changes I've made in my life is to focus on less consumption of "stuff" and more mindful intentional purchasing. I like to call myself a modern minimalist. This journey all started when one day I looked into my closet full of clothing feeling like I had NOTHING to wear. I had plenty of clothing, but still felt overwhelmed with finding something to wear. I realized my goal was to look good and feel confident and that started within. The clothing was just a compliment. I decided to downsize and get rid of any piece that I didn't feel confident in and started curating a capsule wardrobe.

So what is a capsule wardrobe? A capsule wardrobe is a simplified wardrobe featuring essential, quality transitional pieces that you feel the most confident in. It takes into consideration your personal style but focuses on quality + classic styles over quantity. It's one of my favorite ways to start incorporating minimalism and making it a lifestyle. I no longer feel the stress of needing to buy something new for every single occasion, or feel overwhelmed looking into my closet, or struggle with decision fatigue finding something to wear in the morning.

"My focus is really on looking good and feeling confident and more often than not I can do that with my existing wardrobe because it really starts within."

This doesn't mean I no longer shop, I do. But I try to make sure it is with intention (ask any of my friends who have ever shopped with me on vacation!). I consult my wardrobe first and then purchase, and have become comfortable saying NO if I don't truly need it, think I will wear it often or isn't of high quality. In recent months I have been taking it a step further and curating a wardrobe from ethical, sustainable brands. It's a work in progress and continues to evolve.

If you are overwhelmed with closet chaos + "decision fatigue" in the morning trying to find something to wear, consider curating a capsule wardrobe. Rather than having piles and piles of clothes we don’t feel inspired by, we can instead have a curated capsule filled with pieces that we love, flatter us, and can be easily styled.

Here are some of my top picks for a fall capsule wardrobe. Remember pieces are meant to be transitional so while I'm saying fall, many can be worn year round!
